A Canadian Road Trip…

Taylor, his mom Indie, grandma Billie & cousin Popcorn along with Brit & Ida set out on a long journey across the border to Canada to show their stuff! First stop was Blyth, Ontario where Taylor shined, earning Winners Dog, Best of Winners & Best of Breed! Wow, what a great job by Britt & of course Taylor too. After a nice swim & run in the park the group headed north to Woodstock, Ontario. Yesterday Miss Popcorn was the star. She earned Winners Bitch, Best of Winners & Best Opposite Sex over specials for her first five Canadian points! And today was Taylor’s day again at the Canadian Nationals where he earned Winners Dog, Best of Winners for a 5 point major, closing in on his Canadian CH!! We are all so excited, at nearly two years old Taylor is really starting to blossom, showing off his confidence & beauty.

VCLI hunt training day (Feb ‘09)

On a cold but sunny day in February Taylor joined the VCLI gang to do some bird training. Rich was the man with the birds & Taylor was ready. He is steady to shot & working very hard on his retrieval skills hoping to run in senior hunt trials with Eddie & trainer Steve Anker who works with our “red dogs”. Steve thinks Taylor may be able to be a master hunter some day!! Ayva was a star with her owner Christopher, finding & pointing birds like her mother Chatter & grandfather Marley. We know the Arnones will continue to work with her refining & mastering her natural instinct. It was great to see her, happy here with her “prize”!!

NEW CHAMPION!!!

The GSA Specialty in Secaucus NJ the weekend of February 6th turned in to a very special weekend for Avatar Vizslas. This specialty dog show weekend brings many competitors from around the country to "warm up" for Westminster. Taylor was on another adventure, he had won Best in Sweepstakes as a 7 month old puppy the year before & had some big shoes to fill! As usual we found a local place for Taylor to stretch his legs, then headed in to the ring to show off. It was a tough competition at the CCVC Specialty show, Bred By Exhibitor class & Taylor with Britt handling sailed through the class win. Judge Ms Judith Goodin awarded Taylor with Winners Dog, a 4 point major to complete his title of CH. Brittania’s Taylor Made For Two !! After celebrating with some steak & getting a good nights sleep, Taylor went on to compete with the Best of Breed class the rest of the weekend, looking like the star that he is. It was a very exciting weekend for Avatar Vizslas!! Special thanks to Britt co-owner of Taylor for finishing him out of the Bred By Exhibitor class! Taylor is already working on perfecting his hunting skills, on to his next venture…

BOSTON OR BUST…

On Dec 4 Taylor & Jackie headed to Beantown to take on the "Redcoats", aka Vizslas, in a winter dog show cluster. After a short ferry ride across the Long Island Sound the duo headed north. The staff at the Doubletree Hotel welcomed them with good provisions (chocolate chip cookies & dog biscuits) & a suite with lots of room for lounging around & a beautiful view of the Charles River. After a relaxing night they headed to the Bayside Exhibition Center early the next morning to get a look around. After walking the grounds Taylor was ready to take on the "redcoats". And what a star he was. Not only did he win Winners Dog, but also Best Bred By Exhibitor! Britt showed Taylor for this win and also the chance to show Taylor in the Bred By Exhibitor Sporting Group!! Indie (4X BISS Am/Can Ch Opus One Featuring Indie JH NA NAJ TDI) won Best of Breed in Vizslas that day, so both Taylor and she got to run in the sand at the nearby beach during the break. After a good long nap Britt showed Taylor in the BBE Sporting Group and WON THE GROUP!!! The next day Taylor and Britt won BBE in Vizslas again, won another Group Placement in the Bred By Exhibitor Sporting Group and got a chance to compete in the BEST IN SHOW Bred By Exhibitor!! It was very exciting to be competing with so many beautiful dogs and especially to show off to all the the judges that stayed to see the best of the best!! Great job and congratulations to Taylor and Britt! Saying goodbye to the "Redcoats" Jackie & Taylor left Beantown, amazingly caught the last ferry to Long Island, and enjoyed the quiet ride past the vineyards on the North Fork under a starry sky. Woof, woof, and to all a good night…

Up, Up and Away

Taylor went on his first plane ride to the Vizsla Nationals November 10th. Jackie & Taylor flew with friends Joan, Linda & Miss Luna (who he shared cargo space with!) on Continental Airlines to Phoenix, AZ for this yearly event, where Vizslas & their people come from around the country to show their stuff. As usual the folks at Continental made us feel very special, handled us with kid gloves, despite a bit of ground delay in Phoenix coming home, & basically kept us safe & sound. We all drove together to our hotel destination in Tucson where we got acquainted with our rooms and the great grassy areas where we were able to stretch our legs & say hi to lots of really nice people & their Vizslas. It was a VERY long day…

Tuesday was the first full day of Nationals starting with Mr Clay Cody judging the Sweepstakes. Taylor was entered in the 15 to under 18mo dog class, handled by his breeder & co-owner Britt Jung. The weather was warm & sunny (compared to NY), which was great since the judging was outdoors on the hotel property (we all seemed to have missed this on the premium!). There were 9 dogs in Taylor’s class & he showed like a star, winning the class!

Taylor’s cousin Rocky (Kyllburg’s OP1 Rocket’s Red Glare) & our friend (Rocky’s mom & owner) Adrienne Freyer won the 15-under 18mo Junior Bitches class & went on to win Best in Sweepstakes!! We are so proud & happy for them!! We had a nice celebration that night with lots of Vizslas friends!

Regular classes started on Wednesday with Judge Mr James Reynolds. Taylor was entered in the largest class, Bred By Exhibitor Dogs. There were 14 entries in his class & the competition was fierce! Britt handled him to win a well deserved 2nd place, beating some very nice dogs. Taylor earned some nice compliments by Mr Reynolds, especially about his beautiful head & expression, while they were getting their pictures taken together by the show photographer.

After the classes finished up we were treated to a ton of fun at the local Gene C. Reid off leash dog park, a few minutes from the hotel by car. Taylor met lots of new friends & got to run off lead with his Vizsla friends Luna & Rocky, as well as his mom Indie. Taylor was the new kid in town & made sure to say hello to all the regulars!!

On Thursday the Best of Breed took the ring for a very competitive day. With 68 entries Mr Reynolds methodically divided the dogs & bitches up in to smaller groups for easier viewing. It was a beautiful showing for all, there were Specials from all over the country. Britt showed Indie (Ch Opus One Featuring Indie JH TDI CGC, Taylor’s mom & Dillon’s daughter), like the champion that she is, winning a prestigious Award of Merit. Indie was also entered in the Nationals Agility Events, Novice A Standard, held at the Gene C. Reid Park & handled by Britt, Indie qualified, got a 100 as well as a 1st place!! We are so proud of Indie & Britt, they continue to show us how versatile this breed is!!

By the end of the week we all were exhausted, anxious to get home, but sad to say good-bye to our friends from afar. The weather was becoming increasingly beautiful (80′ when we left Friday morning), Taylor & I were envious of those who were going on to more shows in Pima Co. that weekend. We arrived home many hours later & immediately were mauled with love & kisses from the rest of the family, Dillon, Marley & of course Eddie, reassuring us that there’s no place like home…
